After the success of the collaboration with Hutton Players for the 2025 and Spring 2026 quizzes, the Marlborough Dramatic Club and Hutton Players got together again on Friday 18 September 2026, at Shenfield Parish Hall, for a rematch, with over 40 people in attendance.
Six tables (numbered 2-7), of six-eight people each, gathered from 7pm to test their knowledge and raise money for both drama groups. Proceeds will go to support the production of the Marlborough's Autumn show 'My Boy Jack' (22-24 October) and Hutton Players' version of 'Great Expectations' (18-21 November).
This second quiz was very professionally compiled by Bernard Harper and hosted by his dapper son James, excellently attired in a sparkly gold sequin jacket. Both were superbly assisted throughout the evening by Lorna, Bernard's wife - it truly was a family affair. Across 10 rounds of questions from various categories, as well as a bonus round of 'guess the London tube station' from clues provided, the six tables tested their brains against each other.
There can only be one winner though, and it was lucky table number seven (hosted by the Marlborough's Steve Bearpark and Juliette Bird) who triumphed in the end, by only a few points - but they were gifted the winning table prize of bags of Smarties.
With a raffle also held and a game where you pay a pound to take part and the winner takes half the proceeds, with the other half being split between the clubs, the total takings for the night were £415 meaning that each club receives just over £200 towards their Autumn shows.

The writing is on the ... board, as half way through the quiz, the scores look good for table seven but table four were in hot pursuit...
And at the end of the night, you'd never have known that a motley band of thespians had even been in attendance at Shenfield Parish Hall, as Stevie B (for Bearpark) made sure that we left the place as we had found it - clean and tidy. No rest for the winners.
