We would like to invite all our acting members and friends of the club to a reading of the Marlborough Dramatic Club's next play 'Visiting Hour' by Richard Harris, to be directed by June Fitzgerald and performed 11-13 April 2024 at Brentwood School Memorial Hall. (Performances to be Thursday and Friday evenings and Saturday matinee). Rehearsals are planned to begin week commencing 22 January, Monday and Wednesday evenings, also at Brentwood School.

Visiting Hour comprises six interlinked plays (Going Home, Keeping Mum, Magic, Plaster, Showbusiness, Waiting) set in a National Health hospital during visiting hour. Alternately funny and sad - with elements of tragedy and comedy in each - your audience will be reaching for the Kleenex one minute and rolling in the aisles the next!
There are various roles available and there will be the opportunity for actors to play more than one part across the six individual plays.
Plaster:
- Eric - a moustached middle aged man encased in plaster / bandages
- Helen - a middle aged woman
Keeping Mum:
- Pauline - a neat fastidious woman - this part is essentially a monologue
- Old woman - non speaking
Showbusiness:
- Naomi - Well groomed
- Fiona - Well dressed
- Darbon - Elderly man
- Male nurse / Son-in-law / Father / Critic - may be played by the same actor (male)
- Maureen / Woman critic / Second reader - may be played by the same actor (female)
- Julia / Daughter / Mother / Reader - may be played by the same actor (female)

Waiting:
- Old man - frail looking but with a youthful voice - this part is essentially a monologue
